This book examines the Chinese translation history and its influence of Samuel Beckett's masterpiece Waiting for Godot. By using a variety of analytical tools as dialogic theory, rewriting theory, and narratology, the researcher offers a meticulous analysis of the six versions of the play. Through the investigation of these different versions the author not only reveals the roles that translators play in crossing the language and cultural gaps, but also deeply explores the factors that lead to text variations from three dimensions: internal motivation external environment, and stage practice. In addition, the book also focuses on how to adjust the play in order to adapt to the aesthetic habits of Chinese audiences and the needs of theater, and offers insights into the challenges and potential opportunities that the field of dramatic translation may face in the future.
